The little simple
The Trend Cat Scratching Tree Curacao is a product of Europet Bernina International GmbH, a company specializing in the development and distribution of pet products.
In particular, “creativity” but also the “quality of goods” should, according to the company’s homepage, occupy a high place in the company. Many of the products offered by Europet Bernina would therefore be manufactured in-house.
That sounds promising and lets hope that the trend Cat Scratching Curacao can convince in terms of quality and features. But how good is the cat accessories worth 125,00 Euro really? And what makes the cat tree a bestseller in the largest online marketplace in Germany?
Trend Cat Scratching Tree Curacao: Construction & Design
The trend cat scratching post in construction
The trend Cat Scratching Tree Curacao was delivered in a relatively small and compact box. We were pleasantly surprised by the clear instructions: the structure is clearly and simply explained using pictures in three steps. You do not have to worry about additional tools on the Trend Cat Scratching Post either: screws and a suitable Allen key are included.
Since our test model consists of comparatively few individual parts, it could be assembled quickly and easily. Many screws also had the same length, so there was no confusion and the structure was additionally facilitated.
Even as an inexperienced handyman you should have no problems with the scratching post, so that the girls can usually look forward to their new scratching toy already after 15 to 20 minutes of construction time.
Scratching Tree Test: The Design
At first glance, the cat scratching tree Curacao makes a very high-quality impression and stands out visually from other cat tree models. For example, you can not look for Sisal at the Trend cat scratching post. Instead, the cuddly cave as well as the borders of the lying areas consist of dark brown, wrapped water hyacinth leaves. The columns are also equipped with the natural material – but in a lighter beige tone.
Plush is used relatively sparingly on the Trend Cat Scratching Post Curacao and only on a few lying or sitting areas. Both the bottom plate and another level are instead covered with jute textured fabric for extra scratching.
With its sleek design and a beige and brown color scheme, Europet Bernina’s trend cat scratching post can certainly be easily integrated into many home furnishings, offering an alternative to overly plushy or very colorful scratching post models.
In addition, the cat scratching toy is relatively narrow and should fit well in small living spaces. The only weak point: The Europet Bernina model is only available in one color variant.
Overall, we find the design of the Trend Cat Scratching Tree Curacao nevertheless very appealing: The model looks refreshingly different and high quality due to the large amounts of water hyacinth and little plush. Hard-core sisal fans, on the other hand, are less likely to start with cat accessories.
Since the structure of the scratching tree test worked smoothly, the instructions are clearly structured and the scratching post also makes a good visual impression, we award 4.7 out of 5 stars in the Design and Design category.
Fun and value for money
Of course, design is not everything. Because what brings a beautiful and high-quality cat tree, when it finally dusted unused in the far corner?
The Europet Bernina scratching post meets the minimum of equipment in any case: It offers a relatively large number of scratching surfaces for its actually small size and holds a cuddly cave, two lying areas and a toy. We also liked the jute structural fabric surfaces, as they offer additional scratching possibilities in addition to the usual plush surfaces and the little ones.
The removable cushions also caught our eye positively. These are provided with velcro strips and cushion the cuddly cave and lying areas additionally.
However, there are also criticisms: The caps, which should minimize the risk of injury from protruding screws are well-meant, but unfortunately too loose. They can be easily removed from the velvet paws – the protective device is thus obsolete.
In addition, the Curacao with a height of 141 centimeters is not one of the largest scratching posts. Accordingly, the individual scratching planes and the opening of the cuddly cave are comparatively small and thus more suitable for petite cat breeds.
One must also remember that the trend cat scratching post has only a solid basic equipment. If you want a real cat adventure playground, you should probably look for an alternative. Thus, in addition to water hyacinth pillars, cuddly cave and lying and sitting areas, there is only one toy element: a pompom-attached pompom. After further climbing and play opportunities – such as a hammock or ladder – you look in vain.
With all this criticism, however, one should not forget: For a price of 125.00 Euro the Trend Cat Scratching Post offers a comparatively good quality as well as a solid basic equipment. Adults and calmer cats can certainly be satisfied with the existing elements. That is why we award the test result satisfactorily for Europatz Bernina’s cat tree in the fun and value for money category.
Material and workmanship
Even if the equipment of a scratching post is varied, if material and workmanship are not right, initial joy quickly turns into disillusionment. Europet Bernina claims quality. However, the trend cat scratching Curacao, what the manufacturer promises?
First, we took a closer look at the plush elements. These are clean and firmly glued and can not be solved by force of the individual surfaces.
Likewise, in our editorial department, the substance was well received: We found that it was very soft and certainly well suited for a cozy velvet paw nap. Also the Strukturstoffflächen were sewn clean.
In addition, we were impressed by the material and the processing of the scratching trunks: All columns are wrapped in water hyacinths to the ends, firmly glued together and provide a good base for extensive claw whisking.
However, there was a clear deduction for the border of a lying area. Not only did a large piece of water hyacinth disguise be missing when unpacking, the material had already been broken up at one point. This processing error is not just an optical problem: For some babies it is certainly tempting to nibble the loose material.
Although we were quite convinced by the trend of the cat scratching post in terms of material quality, we have to deduct the workmanship for the water hyacinth cladding. With a score of 4.3, the cat scratching post by Europet Bernina is still one of the favorites in the cat tree test in the category material and workmanship.
Although the scratch columns and the individual levels of the test model worked well and are relatively thick and stable, the Curacao in its entirety made a rather shaky impression.
This could be due, among other things, to the floor area of the cat tree: It is relatively small in comparison to the overall construction of the cat accessories and thus lacks a necessary degree of overall stability.
If a strong or several cats romp around on the cat tree, it can be quite dangerous. An overly ambitious jump of the velvet paw could make sure that the entire cat tree is torn down. It is better not to lose sight of his cat on the Trend Cat Scratcher Curacao. At least not if she has a certain play and jump drive.
To counter this problem, it is advisable to place the cat tree in a corner and stabilize it. Under these conditions we can attest to the trend cat scratching post of the Europet Bernina GmbH after all a nearly satisfying test judgment in the category “stability”.
Easy care: the dirt test
At first glance, the bright and fluffy plush material of the Cat Scratching Tree Curacao was extremely susceptible to dirt. Fortunately, Europet Bernina has a solution, at least for the often very heavily used reclining surfaces: Removable plush cushion with Velcro closure. These should be easy to wash at 30 degrees and so permanently maintained and clean. But does the pillow feel the same after the wash as before and has it actually become clean?
We did the test, rubbed the plush pillow with cat food and soil, and allowed it to dry overnight. Then it went at 30 degrees in the laundry. The result: The dirt went out of the pillow without any problems. However, the material was also affected. The plush felt a bit rougher after the wash. In addition, the lining was slightly clumped and could only be pressed with some effort back to the right places in the pillow.
Nonetheless, we are of course pleased that the Trend Cat Scratcher Curacao was the only tree in the test to feature detachable covers. Since the pillows were also clean, we awarded 4 stars in the category Easy Care.
Robustness and practice test in the shelter Hanover
No matter how beautiful the material, the workmanship or the appearance of the scratching post are, ultimately the cat’s accessories should not appeal to the two- but the four-legged friends. Also the bestseller of Europet Bernina had therefore by the tough practical test in the shelter Hanover.
Our first subject for the Trend Cat Scratching Tree Curacao was Munzelchen, an approximately 14 year old and extremely relaxed cat lady. This approached the trend cat scratching tree very leisurely and inspected him in peace.
A very special highlight for our test candidate seemed to be the recliner: After a first reconnaissance she rolled up immediately for a little nap.
Our biggest point of criticism in advance was the stability of the trend cat scratching post Curacao. However, as we placed the cat’s accessories in the shelter in a corner and Munzelchen is also a comparatively small and light cat lady, the stability of the tree was sufficient.
We were particularly curious about how the shelter cats react to the water hyacinth paneling of the cuddly cave and lying areas and whether they would use those as an additional scratching area. Munzelchen left the woody material, however, quite cold: The lady rubbed only on the intended to scratch water hyacinth columns. She was not interested in covering the mattress and cuddly cave.
But what about younger and activate cats that use the cat tree not only to sleep, but to romp, play and climb? In the nearly two weeks of testing, the scratching post was additionally tested by the kittens Ludmilla, Lenz, Lester, Lil, Lime, Fancy and Jubo.
These enthused like Munzelchen immediately for the Kratzbaumhöhle and nestled snugly in her together. In addition, the kitten used the cat accessories also for scratching and playing. At some points of the water hyacinth cladding, the material was also affected. As beautiful as the disguise looks at first glance, if you decide on the trend cat scratching post you have to expect long-term severe wear and tear. At least for very scratchy cats or active kittens.
In the case of the zookeepers from the shelter Hanover the cat tree came in well compared to many other test candidates: “In itself, the cat tree is great and the cats have very well received the scratching tree. He has beautiful large areas and the cave is one of the larger, “explained animal keeper Christiane John. Nevertheless, there was also some criticism in the trend cat scratching post Curacao: “The scratching areas are much too small, however, so that a cat can no longer stretch properly when scratching. Also, the screw cover did not hold. ”
She also had little confidence in the longevity of the removable and washable cuddly pillows: Although these were a good idea, the inner workings of the cushions would soon clump together in the washing machine.
In total, the zookeeper awards three stars to the trend cat scratching post Curacao, which ranks in the middle of the field with this rating.
Conclusion: Europet Bernina cat scratching post Curacao
Our smallest test candidate in the scratching tree test, the Trend Cat Scratching Tree Curacao, was able to inspire us with its very simple structure. In addition, Europet Bernina’s scratching post scored with a simple design and rather unusual water hyacinth paneling. The processing of the material used was also impressive: Scratching posts and plush elements were firmly and carefully glued together. Something worried us only the stability of the cat tree, as this, compared to the other test models, seemed relatively shaky. The practice test, however, gave a slight all-clear: If you place the tree in a corner, it seems stable enough. Even for more active kittens.
Granted with a price of 125.00 euros and a size of 141 centimeters, the trend cat scratching post is not a bargain. But especially for calmer cats that use a scratching tree especially for sleeping and occasional clawing, the Europet Bernina cat accessories can be just the thing.
